Quantum Dots (QD) Market - Global Forecast & Analysis (2012 - 2022)

QDs are minute particles or nano-particles in the range of 2 nm to 10 nm diameter. Since their breakthrough in 1980, quantum dots have been weathered in diverse conditions and operations, which have resulted in the extraction of their unique properties. Due to their controlled excitation properties and ability to reflect in three dimensions, they can be easily tuned to provide the desired emission wavelength just by changing their core size called as “size quantization effect”. Their physical properties do not depend on the material from which they are prepared but on their size. Their notable property of absorption and transmission has evolved them as the desired material to be used in the field of optoelectronics and biomedical applications.

One of the major segments developing in the field of Quantum Display is QD Displays (QDD). A QD display provides better features as compared to cathode ray tubes (CRT) and liquid crystal displays (LCDs).This technology is similar to organic light emitting diode (OLED) that provides more efficient displays. QDD provides 50 to 100 times better brightness in comparison with CRT display and LCD. LCD does not produce a pure green, red, and blue color. On the other hand, Quantum Dot Display produces pure colors.

QD LED and QDD are expected to get commercialized by the end of 2012, as there is strong R&D is going on in this field and solid-state lighting. However, companies have launched QD LED lamp, but the current market for QD LED lamp and the other lighting products is very small. QD-based lighting will be the best replacement for currently available CFL and LED lighting, as this provides better efficiency and high power intensity. QD solar cells and panels will be the biggest revolution in the field of solar energy, and they are expected to commercialize by 2014.

Healthcare industry is one of the key areas of QD technology. There are numerous applications in biomedical and biotechnology field that are already exposed to QD technology and hence it is accounted for the largest percentage in QD market on the whole. Applications in biomedical and biotechnology fields are expected to increase as technology progresses.

The overall market for QD technology is expected to grow at an estimated CAGR of XX% from 2012 to 2022, with healthcare industry having the largest market share. At present, Americas are the market leader, but by the end of 2022, APAC is estimated to take over the first position.

Global Endoscopy Market (2012- 2016) by Product, Application & Technology

Global endoscopy market is broadly segmented into the following product categories; rigid endoscopes, flexible endoscopes, endoscopy visualization systems, endoscopic ultrasounds, endoscopy fluid management systems and endoscope accessories. Introduction of new, but expensive technologies such as HD cameras, 3DHD systems, HDTV three-chip systems, Narrow Band Imaging, Capsule Endoscopy, Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Mucosal Ablation Therapy, Robotic Endoscopes, etc. are expected to drive the global endoscopy market for the coming five years.

Flexible endoscopes and endoscopy visualization systems are two prominent product segments which are currently driving the global endoscopy market. For the coming five years, endoscope accessories, flexible endoscopes and endoscopy visualization systems will witness a growth rate of 15.2%, 10% & 10% respectively while demand for rigid endoscope will remain steady and will register a growth rate of 3.5%. Endoscopy visualization systems will witness an upsurge in demand due to introduction of 3DHD systems, HD cameras and with increased adoption of HDTV three-chip systems by the hospitals. Endoscopic accessories product segment will continue to register strong growth due to incessant launch of new endoscopic accessories. The reusable accessories market is also slated to rebound from its decline as more physicians discontinue purchasing disposables accessories and renew purchases of reusable accessories.

Narrow Band Imaging (NBI), NOTES, Pill Cam, PACS, Mucosal Ablation Therapy and Robotic Endoscopes are the prominent technologies that are currently driving the global endoscopy market. North America is currently leading the global endoscopy market in terms of technology. In the next five years, North America is further expected to lead the endoscopy market in terms of technology adoption & its usage by the endoscopists/surgeons. The North American market is followed by the Japanese market, which has always been on the forefront in terms of technology. Europe is expected to follow the North American & Japanese trend. Rate of technology development & adoption has always been low in the Asian countries. Similar trend is expected to be continued for the coming 5 years in the Asian region.

Global Biocide Market (2012-2016) - By Types, Applications, Trends & Forecast

Biocides are substances that kill or inhibit all life forms when introduced in sufficient concentration and/or duration. They are used to control harmful organisms and control bacterial and fungal growth. Different types of biocide such as halogen compounds, metallic compounds, organosulfurs, organic acids, phenolic, etc. are used for various applications in personal care, water treatment, wood preservation, food and beverage, paints and coatings, and others. Growth in water treatment market on account of increasing water consumption due to population growth, changing food habits, and climate change is a major driver for global biocide market.

Biocides are also used as additives in polymers for preventing the growth of bacteria or fungi and also to prevent degradation of polymer’s physical and sensorial properties, both within the material and at its surface. The incorporation of biocides in plastics and rubbers helps in reducing cost and effort required in cleaning especially, in demanding sectors such as food processing plants, hospitals, and home care.

Biocides are becoming compliant to environment regulations as more and more companies are meeting the regulations. The newer breed of biocide, which have lesser environmental impact and better performance features are key drivers of the biocide market. Higher priced specialty biocides are providing stiff competition to the commodity biocides.

Biocide market is also witnessing an increase in demand for environmentally friendly biocides in disinfectants and sanitizers in household, industrial, and institutional cleaners as compared to other biocide formulations. Other applications of biocides such as health care industry are growing due to increasing health consciousness thus leading to need for protection from infections.

The best growth opportunities for the biocide products are in the Asia-Pacific and Eastern Europe region, whereas mature North American and West European markets are predictable to register a modest growth. Moreover, China will be the fastest-growing country in global biocide market as its strong economic growth continues. In mature markets such as the U.S., Western Europe, and Japan, growth will be driven more by a shift to higher value products rather than by significant volume pick-up.
